PTO Meeting Minutes ~ January 17, 2008

The meeting began at 7:03 pm.

Kristin Cawthorne, the PTO President, welcomed the group of parents and teachers to the PTO meeting.

The January Minutes were approved as written.

Kristin thanked the parents that have volunteered their time so far this year.

Mrs. Mancheno welcomed the group. She stated that things are really picking up and we are now back in the swing of things after the winter break. On Feb. 4 there will be a FCAT Parent Night. It will be a FCAT preparation and parent information time. Testing throughout the school starts in February. The Citizen of the Month ceremonies are going well. She is looking forward to the 5K this Saturday. The teachers and children are excited and she has seen many articles about it in the paper. There are a couple classes in which the entire class has signed up to run. She thanked the PTO board and PALS committee for their commitment of time and for organizing a great network for parents to volunteer.

Kim Deeb, the PALS/Volunteer coordinator, thanked everyone for their great support of our school and for the hard work all of our volunteers are doing. She stated that there are so many opportunities available for our volunteers. She said that there are 30 bags for the Take Home Work Club and they are completely out of them now. The teachers are really taking advantage of this opportunity. The Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon is coming up on February 7.

We are also having so much success with collecting labels and box tops.

Mary Kirsten, the PTO Treasurer, gave a financial report. She stated that the PTO checking account balance is $13646.04. The Book Fair company has not billed us yet. We received the following donations that will go towards the 5K: Business partners - $4032.77 and registrations - $1205. T-shirts and ribbons were purchased for it.
The PTO is giving each grade and specials $250 to spend on supplies of event of choice. They are also giving the school $5000 to go towards field trip buses. The Holiday Shop made about $500.


Jennifer Kinker discussed the upcoming Run with the Lions 5K on Jan. 19. 155 people have pre-registered for the 5K, at least 200 are expected for race. After the one mile Fun Run there will be lots of things to do – bounce house, demonstrations, food vendors, and the playground will be open. It will be a very enjoyable day.

Kristin Cawthorne discussed the upcoming Lamarque events.

She also reminded the group of the following special events:
Field Day – March 15 – carnival games, food vendors, and other vendors – help is needed
Luau & Silent Auction – April 19 – getting geared up, organizational meeting will be held the end of the month; about 400 letters have been sent out for donations for the silent auction - help is needed

Mrs. Mancheno answered questions from the floor.
